The Family

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this song. But i've been listening to this album non stop, so I thought.... Why Not?

When Morris Day and The Time broke up, Prince reassembled some of the remaining members Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton and St. Paul Peterson along with Eric Leeds and Susannah Melvoin, (the twin sister of Wendy, the guitarist in The Revolution) and formed The Family.

Though the single "Screams of Passion" was a modest hit, the album came and went with little fan fare, and the group never recorded again. The CD is out of print and very difficult to get your hands on. The song from the CD that I be wearing OUT is "Desire", an insanely sensual ballad that ends out the CD. Check it out

Love Covers A Multitude of Sin.....

Sly and The Family Stone to this day remains one of the most influential and revered group of artists in not just black music, but music period.

One of the key pieces of this puzzle was Larry Graham. There was massive commerical and critical success....not to mention groundbreaking albums. However, after a period of well documented interal turmoil within the group, Graham left Sly and the Family Stone In 1972 and formed what became Graham Central Station.

Though he never reached the artistic height, nor the popularity of his former group, Graham Central Station was a force in 1970's funk. Their often overlooked 1976 album Mirror produced the single "Love (Covers a Multitude of Sin). "

On this Christmas Eve, I thought this would be an appropriate song choice, cuz God's love does indeed cover a multitude of sin....

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

And God Created Woman.....

I know...I know...I''m posed to be posting songs about cars. In fact, I had "Loud Pipes" by Lil Wayne feat Juve and B.G. all ready to post. But I had a change in direction, due in part to a recent conversation about relationships between men and women.

And since this is Music of MYMind...this is what is on my mind....along with the fact that this CD has been sitting on my desk at work for about 2 weeks.

Fresh....and Drivin'.....Whoooa

Last weekend I was blessed enough to purchase my 1st car on my own. My own munney...insurance...all that. And while my pockets are significantly thinner, I am quite proud of myself.

Therefore...the next series of post will be about cars. You know...the thing those young black rappers can't stop talking about.

The 1st offering is by Famlay. The Virginia group on the Neptune's Star Trak label. This song is from early 2004 and was "supposed" to be a single from the group's debut album Traintago. What ever happened with that huh? Featuring your man Pharrell aka Skateboard P on the vocals....."whoooooa". I absolutely love this song. I think I just love singing along.

(Oh) Shooter

A few years back, I remember seeing this video of this white boy singing while riding his bike thru Manhattan. I would soon find out that his artist, Thicke, was the son of Alan Thicke (the father on TV's Growing Pains) and I would immediately lose interest in his career. However, while working for the (unnamed) record store at that time, I was given an album sampler for his album A Beautiful World .

Fastforward a few years to mid-2005. I was given a single by Thicke, produced by the Neptunes that was....well, very good. And to make a long story short....I woke up.

Fastforward to late 2005. I'm listening to Lil Wayne's new CD Tha Carter 2. Track #13 is called "Shooter" feat Thicke. I listen to it. Its very tight. I go back and get that album sampler from Thicke. Track #1 "Oh Shooter". The exact same track. Lil Wayne just flowed over the song in brillant fashion. So, take a minute to listen to both song (listen to the original one first)

Touch What I Never Touched Before.....

I am avoiding Christmas music at all costs. So this month will be difficult. There's nothing quite as cheesy as Christmas music. Although apparently there is an Al Green christmas album that was recently released that I wouldn't mind owning. I'll listen to The Rev sing a chemistry book.

This being the holiday season, the record labels are releasing all their 4th quarter product. Dozens of new albums are coming out in hopes of taking your hard earned money, and mine, leaving us all in debt just in time for 2006. Merry New Year..... (c) Eddie Murphy. With my impending car purchase, money will be tight. But one man, with one song, has earned my $12.99 plus tax. That man is Anthony Hamilton. And the song is "Pass Me Over". The album is Ain't Nobody Worryin', which is set to be release this coming Tuesday. Take a listen for yourself...

Anthony Hamilton-"Pass Me Over"

And as a continuation of my Goodie Mob post, I decided to post the "Black Ice" remix. This was the b-side to the Black Ice single that feat. Big Gipp and Outkast. The remix version feature all the members of Goodie Mob as well as Outkast. Check for the subtile musical changes during Andre's verse this time around.....

Hold On....

I just got my 2 newest CD's in the mail today. CeCe Winans Purified and Big Boi Presents......Got Purp? Vol. 2.

Back in October I posted a Killer Mike song from the CD (archive). But the song of the day is by the Goodie Mob. They are back, wit Cee-Lo Green. But Big Gipp steals the show from the jump. Production by Organized Noise, and as soon as the beat kicks in I'm thinking 1996....I don't know if Big Boi is releasing the new Goodie Mob album thru his Purple Ribbon Entertainment....but after hearing this song I can't wait. I've prolly listened to it about 25 times today.

Goodie Mob-"Hold On"

Aside from that I've been rediscoving the genius of Bill Withers. Maybe more on that later...

(edit)

So word is that this Goodie Mob track aint new, but was left off of the Still Standing album (I guess that would make sense, with my whole taking me back to 1996 statement...). So I guess it remains to be seen if the Goodie Mob still has the same magic now that they have reunited.

Happy Berfday To ME!!

For my berfday post, I decided to post some audio and video.

I've been listening to Bootsy Collins' Ahh....The Name Is Boosty Baby! , album all week. All the songs from there are pretty well known, so am posting a recent song he did with
Snoop D-O-doulbe G.

Its a very meaningful song, that actually makes me do some reflecting (hence its relevent for my birthday). And there's no rapping in the song at all. If you're confused you'll just have to check it out.

"I'm so glad I got my own....so glad that I can see...my whole life's a natural high, the man can't put no thing on me"

Snoop Dogg feat Bootsy Collins-"No Thang On Me"

And far as the video....its my man Common (Sense). From his album BE, the video for the title track "Be". Many people don't even know there is a video for this. Its probably my favorite cut on the entire CD.

"Never looking back....or too far in front of me. The present is a gift, and I just wanna....BE"

Common-"Be"

check em out....
