Hero

Perhaps the most well known figure in gospel music for more than a decade, most people have a love him or hate him view of Mr. Kirk Franklin. He's too flashy, too worldly, etc, etc. And he is once again taking heat for admitting he once had an addiction to pornography. But one thing (most) people can't deny, is that Kirk as a writer, producer, arranger, performer....is one of the best in the game. His new release, Hero, is an exceptional piece of work.

Hero has some extremely personal songs, The CD begins with a chorus of children singing. Kirk reveals later that the children are from Africa and have all been orphaned due to AIDS or violence in Africa. "Let It Go" deals with abuse, strained family relationships and his addiction to pornography. But my 2 favorite songs are the uplifting "Why" feat Stevie Wonder, and "Imagine Me" which Kirk states at the end "This song is dedicated to people like me, those who struggle with insecurites, acceptance, and even self esteem. You never felt good enough, you never felt pretty enough....but imagine God whispering in your ear, letting you know that everything that has happened is now..... gone"

Powerful stuff

Kirk Franklin's album is amazing. It is almost like a concept album in a way because it has a cohesive message. When you really think about it though, every gospel/Christian album should be a "concept" album, but that is another subject altogether. I think my favorite track right now is probably "Hero" because it is so epic, but every track is hot so it is hard to choose.
