Ghetto Rock and Roll....
When I was living in Philadelphia, I discovered a local band that went by the name of Stiffed. The front woman for this band is the beautifully weird Santi White, who I would later find out wrote and produced a good portion of Res' debut (and to this point only) album.I purchased Stiffed's oddly tittled EP Sex Sells (complete with a diseased looking man on the cover). And while I was never blown away, I saw lots of potential in what I heard. When I found out about their new full length album Burned Again, I couldn't wait to get it. How did I find out about it? Countless hours on the internet of course. Although their name is beginning to get out there a bit more in magazines and such.
I would describe their sound as more punk than anything, but there are tinges of ska and new wave as well. Ranging from loud and aggressive to softerer more calm tracks, I feel like Burned Again exibits a great deal of growth in comparison to the EP. I would love for a "black" rock group to be successful, but I'm not holding my breath in todays musical climate.
From the album Burned Again
Stiffed-"Hold Tight"
Stiffed-"Fix Me"
