Riddle Me This...
So back in my college days, I did some things that i'm not necessarily proud of...
One of them, spurred by my irrational Wu-Tang fanaticism, includes trading my copy of this album:
The Jackson 5 - Dancing Machine
For this:
Method Man - "The Riddler"
As foolish as that seems, recognize that this was a rather obscure Wu-Tang track, while Dancing Machine is a relatively well know Jackson 5 song. So I figured I would get it back sooner or later.
I never have...
So yeah...I lost.
But it only goes to highlight my over-the-top Wu Tang loyalty during the 1990's. And don't let the Batman Forever tie in fool you. Wu-Tang Clan put in some major work on Soundtracks. Some of their best work actually (see Sunset Park, Soul In The Hole, America Is Dying Slowly, High School High, etc....).
I was gonna post up the video, but the video is pretty ridiculous. Plus all the random shots of Jim Carey...so the song itself will have to do.

Wu-Tang Is Forever...
Last Thursday I turned on the television and flipped past BET, where they were showing the documentary
WU: The Story Of The Wu-Tang Clan
Anyone who knew or met me between 1993 and say…2000 should know that I was probably THE BIGGEST Wu-Tang Clan fan on the planet. In high school, while Master P and 2Pac ruled the Midwest, I was proudly rocking Wu-Tang Clan. In fact throughout my high school, half the people in the school didn’t know my name, but referred to me a “Wu-Tang”. Everything I said, listened to, and wore, was directly opposite of what was the norm in that area of the country. I was indeed an outcast or sorts…
My Wu-Tang obsession began when my older neighbor (to whom a great deal of my hip hop roots begin) introduced me to them. Enter The Wu-Tang: The 36 Chambers. It was cinematic…drawing influence from old Kung-Fu movies. Completely different from anything that I had heard at the time. I spent most of my time listening to 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Too Short and Spice 1. This was my introduction to dark, grimey New York rap and I was hooked. Next year I might list the 10 albums that had the greatest impact on my life, and Enter The Wu-Tang: The 36 Chambers would make that list.
But this entry isn’t solely about that album. Wu-Tang over the better part of a decade created a musical empire that bled over into fashion, video games, and movies. Over the course of this week, I will pay homage to the rap collective that reshaped the rap game.
So for today, I give you what stands as probably my favorite Wu-Tang related song of all time. From Ghostface Killah’s Ironman album…”Fish”. And for trivia purposes, I rapped over this beat in my high school talent show in 1998.

How Could You Stay Outside?
One of my homies....(who I won't go as far as to put her on blast. For the purposes of this blog, we'll just call her, "Jackie "), has inspired me to revisit my music blog. I always make a post then say I'mma do better, and you won't hear from me for months. I'm trying to change that. I've moved several times this year and well...life has been rough. But all that aside....I'm back in the game.
Earlier this year I was watching TV and came across this commercial.
I was immediately mesmorized by the song...
So I started doing my research. Asking around. And I found out that the artist was Yael Naim.
And thru some insane fortune...able to get my hands several copies of her CD.
Yael Naim is Israeli, but she was born in Paris. Her 2nd album the self-titled "Yael Naim" is a collaboration with West Indian percussionist David Donatien and contains songs in Hebrew, French and English.
Her voice is enchanting. And even without being able to understand most of the lyrics, the music is so lush that it draws you in. Definitely not a party album. More of a clean the house or a I got a headache from work let me relax type album.
