Like A Star

My busy busy life...

I have very little free time and no extra money. Not a good mixture for finding new music. In between hearing Sean Paul's "Temperature" and Lil Jon's "Snap Ya Fingers" 60 times a day, I have managed to discover an album by a 26 year old singer from the UK that I can't stop playing.



Released in the UK a few months ago, Corinne Bailey Rae's self titled debut album is set to be released in the United States, June 20th. I told someone yesterday that she sounds like what would happend if Norah Jones, Bjork and Esthero had a child (impossible...i know. Or maybe not?)

I've probably watched 30 minutes of TV in the past 2 weeks. I know she has been getting some love from VH1-Soul. Thats all I know. Radio?? I have no clue... I've heard criticism that all her songs sound the same, and she sings with no soul or no life. Eh... I not how I see it. You don't have to scream your songs *cough* maryjblige *cough* to make the words have weight. Until I see some linear notes, I'm guessing right now that she wrote her songs. The song writing is poetic, almost nursery rhyme-ish. Like a bedtime story. And all the songs don't sound the same, although there is a definite flow to the album. Everything fits.

This weekend I am traveling back to Indiana. I'll be there for awhile (most likely trying to increase my records collection by a few dozen items). I'll be sure to put you on to some good stuff upon my return.
